Weather warming as winter wanes

Winter might be on its way out, with near-record high temperatures expected in Halifax today.
The temperature is expected to reach 12 or 13 degrees celsius, eclipsing the previous record of 13.2 degrees set on Mar. 8, 2008.
News 95.7 meteorologist Richard Zurawski says, although it feels like spring, the new season doesn’t officially begin for a couple of weeks.
“Spring doesn’t officially start until [March] 20, very early in the morning,” he said. “But it’s going to feel like spring for the next few days. Temperatures will stay mild today and tomorrow, fall tomorrow afternoon, and then bounce back again on Saturday and Sunday. By Monday they’re back up to 10 degrees again.”
Environment Canada has also issued a wind warning for most of the Maritimes.
“The winds are really going to pick up, gusting to 90 km/h. So it’ll be very windy and very mild,” said Zurawski.
He added that this may mark the end of winter conditions for HRM residents.
“I would think the snow is over,” Zurawski said. “It doesn’t mean we can’t get some snow flurries or maybe a centimetre or two. But I would say that winter weather, for the most part, is done.”
