Ides of March storm later, lighter than expected

A storm system is still moving through the Maritimes, although it’s later and lighter than expected.
After freezing rain and light snow last night, Environment Canada has lifted a heavy snowfall warning for metro and Halifax County.
Today’s forecast calls for up to 15 cm of snow and rain, but News 95.7 meteorologist Richard Zurawski says it’s tough to predict exactly what we’ll get.
“The temperature is going to be hovering around plus one,” he said. “So it’s really difficult to determine exactly how much is going to come down in the form of snow and how much is going be rain.”
Freezing rain made for dangerous driving conditions on Wednesday evening, contributing to two head-on crashes, three rolled-over vehicles and at least four other major accidents in HRM.
“Most of the precipitation came down in the form or rain and ice pellets,” Zurawski said.
The bad weather is expected to improve radically by tomorrow, and the weekend forecast calls for sunshine and double-digit temperatures.
