Intermittent winter parking ban extended for another year

HRM’s traffic authority says the “no snow, no tow” version of the parking ban will run for a second year.
Regional council asked Ken Reashor to pilot a version of the ban that would see the overnight ban enforced only when snow clearing operations were underway, instead of being enforced every day, regardless of the weather.
Reashor tells news 95.7 it will take a second year to get a good sense of whether drivers respected the intermittent ban.
“Clearly, we were ticketing and towing a fair number of vehicles,” “Whether that showed success or not is something we’re going to review with our winter works safety operation team.”
The ban was only enforced a handful of times this season, thanks to a mild winter.
Although it was mild, the municipality will have to dip into its reserve budget to pay for snow removal and other winter maintenance.
Metro Halifax reports HRM spent a total of $17.6 million on winter works this year, $2.4 million more than was budgeted.
