Winter weather returns with storm warning for N.S.

It may be a while before you can break out the shorts and sandals again.

After a week that brought seven consecutive days of record-breaking warm weather, a winter storm warning is in effect for north and eastern Nova Scotia.

Environment Canada has issued the warning for Cumberland county north, Colchester county north, Pictou, Antigonish and Cape Breton. The forecast in those areas calls for about 15 cm of snow, with winds gusting up to 90 km an hour.

In metro, News 95.7 meterologist Richard Zurawski says we’ll get mostly rain today and tonight.

“Tomorrow, the winds will be gusting to 70 km an hour with flurries as well,” he said. “So I would say in total, under five centimetres. Tomorrow’s going to kind of a cold, wintry day.”

Zurawski says this system is pretty typical for March and it will be April before we can be certain we’re done with wintry weather.
