Rockingham shooting not random: police

Police have made one arrest and are hunting for more suspects after a shooting in Rockingham.

A group of people chased a 27-year-old man to a home on Dakin Drive around 10:40 p.m. Monday, and when he slammed the front door on them, someone fired a bullet through a window in the door.

The man was hit in the upper body.

Halifax Regional Police Staff Sgt. Bill Morris tells News 95.7, investigators arrested an 18-year-old man on Dawn Street in Fairview less than 90 minutes later.

“It was just some good investigative work by the patrol officers and our GIS section,” he said. “They just kept checking some areas because they got some information on who the shooters were and tracked down one of them right away.”

Morris says it’s not clear yet what started the fight that led to the foot chase and shooting.

“It’s now more apparent that they do know each other,” he said. “We don’t know what the altercation was about yet, they haven’t finished interviewing the victim or the suspect.”

The victim was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, but he’s expected to survive.

No one else in the house at the time of the shooting was hurt.
