Suspect in Rockingham stabbing remanded for psych assessment

The Halifax man accused of stabbing his elderly aunt on the weekend will undergo a 30-day psychiatric assessment.
John Jason Salah, 41, was arrested Saturday evening after a 78-year-old woman was attacked in a Flamingo Drive home and rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Herald reports Norma Jean Salah remains in critical condition.
John Salah appeared in court Monday, facing charges that include attempted murder.
Salah has a history of mental illness and both the Crown and defence asked for his remand to the East Coast Forensic Hospital for the assessment.
