Small drop expected in N.S. gas prices

There’s some good news in store at the pumps this week.

News 95.7 is predicting regulated gas prices will drop by 1 to 1.5 cents a litre tonight, moving the price of regular self-serve to about $1.28 in metro.

George Murphy of Consumers for Fair Gas Prices tells News 95.7, crude oil and wholesale gas prices are trending downwards this week – and demand has fallen by nearly four per cent over the last week as well.

“People are still conserving a little bit out there, so you’re not seeing refiners turn out as much gasoline on the markets as well,” he said. “So there’s a little bit of tit-for-tat that’s happening out there, and I think consumers are actually winning.”

In New Brunswick, regulated gas prices fell by 1.5 cents a litre overnight to a new maximum of $1.294. Diesel prices are down nearly two cents to $1.31 a litre.

In Toronto, unregulated prices were expected to climb by a penny, moving the average price in the GTA to $1.297.
