Justice Department shuts down three high-crime properties

The Nova Scotia Justice Department is confident one Dartmouth neighborhood will be safer for the time being, now that it has legally vacated three properties in the north end.
The Safer Communities and Neighborhoods Act allowed justice authorities to shut down three separate apartments on Victoria Road that, evidence showed, were being used for drugs and prostitution. All three apartments are owned by the same person.
Halifax Regional Police have reportedly responded to those particular locations more than 700 times since 2008. The closure of the properties legally voids the lease of the current tenants and closes them down for the next 90 days.
