Here comes the sun! Summer arrives today

A mild, dry spring will give way to what’s expected to be a warm, dry summer today.
The summer solstice officially occurs at 7:09 p.m., making this the longest day of the year.
“It looks like about 15 hours and 38 minutes on average across the Maritimes,” said News 95.7 meterologist Richard Zurawski. “It’s all downhill after this, the days get shorter again.”
However, in spite of the incrementally shorter days, Zurawski says the summer will be warmer and drier than average.
“For the next three months we’re looking at warmer weather and we’re looking at summertime weather until the 21st of September, which of course is the autumnal equinox,” he said.
Ontario residents are currently in the grip of a stifling heat wave and Zurawski says Maritime residents can expect some fairly warm temperatures over the next few months as well.
He says temperatures have been above average since last September.
