Dartmouth house fire was lit by cigarette

Halifax Fire has finished investigating two recent house fires.
They’ve learned what started a fire on the weekend in Dartmouth that destroyed one home and severely damaged one next door on Lindenwood Terrace.
The fire started in a wooden planter box on the back deck from a “carelessly discarded cigarette.”
A fire that gutted the attic of a house on Richard Street in Elmsdale on July 18th started on the deck as well, but that one was caused by lightning.
