Bridgewater police officer faces assault charges

BRIDGEWATER, N.S. – Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team has charged a Bridgewater police officer with two counts of assault following a domestic violence complaint.

The agency laid the charges after it fielded an allegation from the Bridgewater police that one of the town’s officers assaulted a man.

The charges stem from alleged incidents that date back to last month.

Christine Bonnell is scheduled to appear in Bridgewater provincial court on Wednesday.

The 46-year-old Bonnell was not on active duty at the time of the alleged incidents.

The Serious Incident Response Team is an independent Nova Scotia agency that investigates complaints against police.
