Former MLA Dave Wilson released from jail

Former Liberal MLA Dave Wilson is out of jail.  He served nearly four months, or less than half, of his nine-month sentence for defrauding Nova Scotia taxpayers of nearly $61,000 to support a gambling addiction.

Justice Minister Ross Landry responded to the news of Wilson’s release.  “If you do your time, and you’re out, I respect the process.  I wish him all the best as he moves forward with his life and I hope lessons are learned.”

Wilson was officially released from provincial custody Wednesday.

The former Glace Bay politician pleaded guilty in September 2011 to uttering forged documents, fraud over $5,000 and breach of trust.  He was sentenced to nine months in jail and probation in April 2012.
