New speed limits in school zones take effect

The Nova Scotia government is reminding motorists to slow down to 30 kilometres per hour when children are present in school zones.

The new law went into effect Saturday.

The Safer School Zone Act states that in school zones where the limit is higher than 50 kilometres per hour, drivers are required to slow to 50 kilometres per hour.

Transport Minister Maurice Smith says new signs are being posted in school zones across the province.
