Police officers around the Halifax Regional Municipality were out in force Wednesday morning as the first day of classes ushered in changes to speed limits in School Zones.
The Provincial law actually came in to effect on Saturday, but Wednesday was the first real test for drivers who must now slow down to 30 kilometres per hour in the zones.
Halifax RCMP Corporal Scott Macrae was on the road with many of his colleagues ensuring the rules were followed, and early indications are that drivers have are obeying.
Macrae says “A lot of people walking in the crosswalks, and along the roads are pleased to see the changes and the Police visibility.”
Fines double if drivers are caught speeding in the School zones. That means fines can range $340.21 to $685.21.
