Savage fires back

Mike Savage says he is focusing on the issues in his campaign for mayor, not on personal attacks from his opponents.

Fellow candidate Tom Martin used his closing arguments Monday night to launch a scathing attack on Savage.

Martin alluded to Savage’s well-funded campaign, saying HRM doesn’t need the extravagance of a $200,000 election campaign and that the mayor’s chair shouldn’t go to the highest bidder.

Savage says voters are tired of negative campaigning and want a new kind of leadership in the Mayor’s office.

As for his ties to the Federal Liberal Party, Savage contends that has support from Liberals, Conservatives, members of the NDP and the Green Party.

Savage called Martin’s attack at the end of the event the coward’s way out, suggesting attacks should be aired at the beginning in order for everyone to have a chance to respond.

All six candidates for Mayor will spar again Tuesday in an event at Alderney Landing at 6:30pm.
