Residents in Halifax Regional Municipality who want to vote in the municipal election early can cast their ballot electronically or by phone starting Oct. 6.
Voter notification letters went out to eligible voters earlier this month and include all of the information needed to partake in advance voting.
To vote via the internet, residents must log onto vote.halifax.ca, then enter their i.d. number and pin number from their voter notification letter.
“After logging in, you will be presented with your ballots. First, for Mayor, second for councillor, and thirdly for your school board,” said returning officer Cathy Mellett.
To cast your ballot by telephone you must call 1-877-775-4649. Callers will be prompted for their i.d. and pin numbers.
“it’s just like doing your telephone banking. You’ll be presented with options, then push the relevant numbers to cast your ballot,” said Mellett.
With both options, voters will be asked twice to confirm their selections in order to ensure the right selections have been made.
For those who have not recieved their voter notification letter, Mellett said stations have been set up at municipal libraries to give eligible voters a chance to get on the voter’s list.
Advanced electronic voting begins at 8 a.m. on Oct. 6 and runs until 7 p.m. on Oct. 18.
Election day is Oct. 20.
