Mobile methadone clinic rolls into Halifax

Direction 180 is showing off its newly acquired mobile methadone clinic.

The van is expected to start serving people next month.

It can’t be soon enough for Executive Director Cindy MacIsaac, who says the plan to open a new clinic started in January and they secured the van back in July.

“The beauty of a mobile is that you can expand access to services where the need is,” said MacIsaac. “If the numbers decrease, then you can retract. A few people can travel rather than a lot.”

Now that they have the vehicle, it needs some upgrades and repairs.

Its still uncertain where the van will be parked, although Fairview and Dartmouth are two areas being looked at.

There was some controversy in recent weeks over a perminant clinic setting up in Fairview. Local businesses raised funds to “buy out” the permanent clinic and fund the mobile clinic instead.
