Plans for the big redecking project on the Macdonald Bridge are being revealed, allaying some commuter fears that the temporary closure of the downtown harbour span will cause traffic chaos.
Starting in 2015, the sidewalk and bike lanes will close, but the city revealed at the public meeting Tuesday night, that shuttles will run all day and night to ensure pedestrians can cross the bridge at their convenience.
Over the course of the project that could take as long as two years, the bridge will close Monday to Friday from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. and sometimes on weekends.
Metro Transit will work on re-routing buses to the MacKay bridge and is also considering increasing ferry runs.
