Developer calls St. Pat’s-Alexandra handling ‘unfortunate’

The developer who tried to buy the former St. Pat’s-Alexandra school says HRM city council has made an unfortunate decision.

Councillors voted to essentially re-set the whole sale after the courts ruled the initial sale to Jono Developments null and void.

Developer Joe Metledge says because of the long court process, he is no longer even able to submit a second bid on the property.

“As much as we love the property and we have unbelievable vision for that site, we can’t be involved,” he says. “I mean, this process has exposed our business plan, our financials, our strategy, our vision, every part of our analysis to that site.”

Metledge says the deposit that he paid to secure the property will be returned, but he’s incurred more than $100,000 in legal fees. He also says there’s been tens of millions of dollars in lost opportunities for the site in central Halifax.

He says he’s not ruling out legal action against the city.
