The NDP government is trumpeting the arrival of a dozen new family doctors in the province.
Health Minister Dave Wilson says seven of the doctors are here through a program for foreign-trained doctors. Five are recently-graduated med students doing their residency work in the Valley.
He says older residency programs had new docs moving every couple of months.
“With this program and this new model, they’ll stay there for the full two years,” said Wilson. “It’s our hope that they’ll fall in love with Nova Scotia, fall in love with the rural practice of a general practitioner, and stay in Nova Scotia once they finish their training.”
The new doctors will be in Yarmouth, Kentville, Elmsdale, Pugwash, Springhill, Parrsboro, Annapolis Royal, Berwick and Musquodoboit Harbour.
