Province pays US university to do study for NS

Premier Darrell Dexter made an announcement today in Burnside, about how the province is getting ready for the Irving Shipbuilding project.

Dexter says there are local companies benefiting from the province’s Productivity Investment Program.

Dexter has also revealed that the province is paying Duke University, NC $135-thousand to do a study that will help government, companies and workers make the most of the shipbuilding project.

He tells News 95.7 why a Canadian university wasn’t chosen to do the study.

“It is the first of it’s kind, it’s an analysis method that they developed” He says, ” Of course we searched broadly to try and find one here in Canada, but that didn’t exist.”

Dexter says the research will focus on the creation, production and delivery of the arctic offshore patrol ships, which are the first expected to be built under the national shipbuilding procurment project.
