NS immigration cap increased

HALIFAX – Nova Scotia Premier Darrell Dexter says Ottawa has raised the cap on the number of immigrants the province can recruit through its nominee program. Dexter says the cap has been increased to 700 from 500 for one
year.

He says the number is the highest ever to be nominated through the program. Dexter says the program, which targets people with needed business skills, represents about one-third of all immigrants to Nova Scotia.

He says the province will continue to push the federal government to increase the number of immigrants admitted to Canada through the program.

In an immigration strategy released last year, the province set a goal of issuing 1,500 certificates under its nominee program for skilled workers by 2020.
