Halifax flurries stay offshore

It was supposed to be the first snowfall of the season to correspond with the weekday morning and afternoon commutes. Instead, the sky was clear, the only white stuff on the roads was salt put down by the city and traffic flowed smoothly.

It seems there was a snow system somewhere off the coast of Nova Scotia, but it didn’t make its way over Halifax as predicted.

“It could have been a good snow storm, but it wasn’t because it stayed south of the region,” explained News 95.7 meteorologist Richard Zurawski. “Unfortunately, or fortunately as the case may be, the low-pressure system stayed far enough to the south stayed far enough that only the extreme southern portion of the South Shore got some snow and rain.”

After Mother Nature threw local weather prognosticators for a loop Wednesday, it’s with a grain of that salt that there are further predictions of flurries for Thursday – a slight chance of flurries.

“What we’re looking at right now is only a light, light dusting at the very worst and no significant amounts of snow,” said Zurawski.

Snow or no snow, Zurawski said it will get cold over the next couple of days before the temperature climbs back up to double-digit temperatures next week.
