News 95.7 is predicting that the first regulated change in the price of fuel in 2013, will be a two cent a litre increase for regular self-serve, pushing the price for a litre of gas up in Metro Halifax to about $1.28.
George Murphy with Consumers for Fair Gas Prices says last-minute, political wrangling over tax increases and spending cuts in the United States weighed heavy on the fuel markets this week.
“We did see that little bit of an increase in oil over the last couple of days, so I think there’s going to be a small increase to consumers this time around,” Murphy told the Rick Howe show Wednesday.
Murphy adds that despite a deal being made to deal to avert the “fiscal cliff,” the markets may still be unpredictable for some time.
“When you’re looking at the overall run up of oil in the last little while, there’s probably a little bit of a warning here on the wall when it comes to what the markets are playing when it comes to the fiscal cliff deal that was reached,” said Murphy.
“When it comes to the overall affect on what’s going to be happening with the U.S. economy…even though this deal has passed there’s a still whole lot that has to go through the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate,” he said.
Across the border in New Brunswick, regulated prices are up 2.1 cents a litre this morning to sell at a maximum $1.27 a litre for regular self-serve.
