A Halifax man will be in court today to face weapons and robbery charges after waving and firing a pellet gun during an attempted robbery at a Halifax mall bus terminal on Thursday evening.
Police were called to the Mumford Road terminal after a report of an elderly woman being robbed at gunpoint around 5:16 p.m.
“The guy was waving around what was first reported as a pistol,” Staff Sgt. Bill Morris told News 95.7, Friday. “Officers responded as if it was a real gun. It’s very concerning to the police and the public. If it had been a real gun there could have been some serious injuries.”
Police said the original victim fled the area without handing over anything during the attempted robbery.
The suspect then confronted others at the bus terminal and fired the pellet gun several times. No one was injuried and no property was damaged.
A 32-year-old Halifax man was arrested at the scene.
