A focus hearing was held in Halifax Provincial Court this morning for the man accused of killing Halifax gay activist Raymond Taavel.
Andre Denny, 33, is charged with second-degree murder.
A fourth day has been added to the time allotted for a preliminary inquiry. The Crown wants to ensure there is enough time to get through all 23 witnesses being called.
None of those witnesses are experts, but civilians and police officers.
The preliminary inquiry is set to begin Feb. 19.
Denny, a psychiatric patient at the East Coast Forensic Hospital, failed to return after being granted a one-hour leave last April.
Taavel, 49, was killed outside Menz Bar, a popular gay club on Gottingen Street, after apparently trying to break up a fight.
