Halifax Water has filed a two year rate application with the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board requesting increases in rates to water, waste water and storm water services.
If approved, the new rates would take effect on July 1st, 2013 and April 1st of next year.
The average residential customer would see a rate increase of $5.94/month July 1st, and $9.82/month next April.
In a release from Halifax Water, it says the company needs the increases because of the need to invest in the renewal of aging waste water infrastructure, and also to upgrade waste water treatment facilities to meet stricter environmental guidelines.
