Revised Maritime Bus schedule to smooth bumpy start

The owner of Maritime Bus acknowledges mistakes were made during the first six weeks of the newly established, inter-provincial bus company’s service.

A revised schedule released Monday is meant to resolve some of the issues.

“I think that I have to shoulder quite a few of the complaints,” Mike Cassidy told News 95.7 Tuesday. “I believe I was just a little bit too aggressive in my scheduling. I wanted to give too much, perhap too soon. I made the schedules just a little bit too tight. Most of the complaints were about delays and waiting times and we have corrected that now with our new schedule.”

The schedule is meant to reflect ridership demand during the regular work week, and not the weekends or holidays.

Cassidy said the reivsed schedule also ensures students can catch a late Friday night bus, or that there are same-day connectors from Floranceville, New Brunswick to the Annapolis Valley.

Otherwise Cassidy is trumpetting the accomplishments made over the holidays.

“It’s pretty exciting what was accomplished,” he said. “We travelled close to a half a million kilometers in six weeks. Ten thousand kilometers a day we were travelling in the Maritimes with the network.”

Maritime Bus has been operational for 43 days, taking over after Acadia Lines shut down on Nov. 30, 2012, taking over the bus service for Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island with connectors to Quebec.
