Saint John councillor facing child porn charges resigns

A mayor in New Brunswick says a municipal councillor has handed in his resignation, a week after the man was
charged with possessing child porn.

Saint John Mayor Mel Norton issued a statement Thursday night about Councillor Donnie Snook.

The brief release said Norton received a letter from Snook’s lawyer yesterday indicating the councillor was resigning.

Norton said in the one-page statement that the decision was the result of a quote “personal matter.”

Norton thanked Snook for dealing with the matter in a timely manner.

Snook is charged with eight counts, including possessing and making child pornography as well as sexual interference with a child under 16.

He was arrested at his home last week as part of an investigation that began in 2011 involving the R-C-M-P, and Saint John and Toronto police.
