Spryfield home target of arson Sunday night

A scary Sunday night for a couple of people in a Spryfield home after they hear a large bang, then find the house they’re in on fire.

Police say the incident was arson.

The fire, which started in the basement of the house, was reported at 11:30 p.m. in the 0-50 block of Pinegrove Drive.

Sgt. Greg Robertson told News 95.7 a man and a woman were able to get out of the house with their four dogs and no one was injured.

“The residence sustained minor damages,” he explained. “During the course of the investigation and as a result of the evidence collected at the scene, the incident is being classified as arson.”

The fire didn’t take long to put out, and police went to work.

“A forensic identification member attended the scene to collect evidence and a K-9 unit was utilized,” he said.

Robertson said a track did lead away from the scene where it’s possible the suspect may have gotten into a vehicle.

Investigators will be back in the neighbourhood this morning talking to neighbours.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
