Police initiate quick response after cruiser broken into

Two Dartmouth men should have expected a quick response from police when they decided to break into a Halifax Regional Police cruiser early Friday morning.

An officer was taking a statement on Galaxy Avenue around 2 a.m. when he returned to find the interior of his vehicle damaged and a briefcase missing.

A number of HRP units and members of the Cole Harbour RCMP detachment flooded the area and caught up with the two culprits within a half hour.

With the help of the K9 unit, all of the items stolen from the officer were recovered.

A 19-year-old and 22-year-old man were set to appear in Dartmouth court Friday morning. They’ve been charged with theft, possession and property damage.
