Burnside jail guard facing drug and weapons charges

A Burnside jail guard is facing drug and weapon charges after a police search on Friday in Dartmouth.

32-year-old Michael Edward Robertson is on unpaid leave until the matter is resolved.

Last fall, former corrections officers, a jail guard, and a nurse from the jail were arrested for bringing drugs into the facility in Burnside.

Justice Department spokesperson Megan Tonnet says it’s not believed the cases are connected.

“It’s our understanding that this is not related to the charges in the fall,” explains Tonnet. “That’s an active police investigation.”

Three others were arrested during the search, where police seized crack cocaine, marijuana and cash.

Robertson was scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.
