It’s back to regular operations for Canada’s 25 Sea King helicopters after the Royal Canadian Air Force halted all fleet operations for five days.
The pause was a precaution in response to Monday’s incident where a helicopter tipped forward and smashed its five rotor blades on the tarmac at Canadian Forces Base Shearwater in Halifax. An investigation is still underway to determine what caused the incident, but a technical assessment on all Sea King helicopters ruled out any fleet-wide concerns.
No one was hurt in the incident, but the helicopter was severely damaged.
Sea Kings are deployed worldwide and help with search and rescue operations, disaster relief, counter-narcotic operations, and fisheries and pollution patrols. Canada’s Sea King fleet are marking 50 years of service this year.
