Home Builders’ Association wants water conservation program

With recent and future rate increases, Halifax Water will be getting billions of dollars over the next 30 years from new and existing customers.
The local water utility says the money will go towards replacing pipes and other infrastructure.
Nova Scotia Home Builders’ Association CEO, Paul Pettipas, thinks the utility should use part of the money from water rate increases to set up a group independant from Halifax Water.
Their only mandate should be to work with exisiting homeowners to make sure they reduce their water consumption, and save money as a result.
“We want to see a real conservation program where we can help existing homeowners to use less water”, says Pettipas.
Pettipas adds if Halifax Water just keeps selling more water, no one is going to save money.
