Pipeline fever hits Saint John

SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Optimism is oozing throughout Saint John this morning as news that a project to bring a west-east pipeline to city spreads.
TransCanada Corp. announced it will proceed with its’ Energy East Pipeline Project this morning after months of speculation.
Saint John Councillor Shirley McAlary calls the announcement “wonderful news”.
“It’s so good for our future. It was create jobs and industry. There will be lots of opportunities come forward. It’s the best news we have heard in many years.”
If the project receives regulatory approval, construction on the pipeline could begin as soon as 2016.
TransCanada says that the pipeline will end at the Canaport LNG facility in Saint John where the energy company and Irving Oil will come together to build own and operate a new deep water marine terminal.
TransCanada is expected to speak about the decision this afternoon.
