Explore the 100-year-old CSS Acadia for free

Nova Scotians are getting the chance to experience the CSS Acadia for its 100th anniversary.

Admission to tour the vessel will be waived all weekend long to encourage people to learn about its history.

“There’s also a lot going on inside the museum,” said Dan Conlin, marine history curator at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. “We have a brand new exhibit all about the Acadia, which is chalk full of photos and interactive objects.”

Conlin says former crew members will be gathering on-board today for the celebrations.

“We have about 30 vets from Acadia from different time periods,” adds Conlin. “She sailed right up until 1968, so there’s a fair bit of fellows from the fifties and sixties around, and a few lucky old timers who sailed on her right after World War II.”

The Acadia launched in 1913 in England and was the first vessel built to survey Canada’s northern waters.
