Young athletes represent N.S. for Canada Summer Games

More than 600 Nova Scotia athletes are going for gold in Sherbrooke, Quebec for the 2013 Canada Summer Games.

Young athletes from 23 teams will compete in soccer, sailing, rowing, golf, fencing and more.

“Most of them have trained their whole lives for this chance,” said Susan Tate, communications director for Team Nova Scotia. “These are some of the most amazing kids and athletes you will ever meet. They’ve been training hard, looking great, and they deserve the support of their province.”

22-year-old mountain biker Andrew L’Esperance has some weight on his shoulders to win a medal in the cycling event. Saturday is the first day of competition, with games in baseball, cycling, tennis and volleyball kicking off.

You can follow the teams on twitter @teamnovascotia and through Facebook. The games run until August 17th. In 2011, Halifax hosted the Canada Winter Games.
