Python which killed two boys euthanized

The African rock python which investigators believe killed two young boys in Campbellton, New Brunswick was euthanized on Monday.

It was sent to Fredericton to confirm it was an African rock python. Meanwhile, there is an autopsy being performed in Saint John, N.B. on the two boys. Noah and Connor Barthe, ages five and seven, were found dead yesterday morning in an apartment above an exotic pet store.

Police say they believe the snake escaped its enclosure and went through a ventilation system before strangling the boys.

The Mounties are looking at whether the store followed the province’s regulations on exotic animals as part of their investigation.
