The independent agency that investigates police in Nova Scotia says it won’t be laying charges in a case of possible domestic violence involving a police officer.
The Serious Incident Response Team, known as SIRT, says it was notified by police in New Glasgow in May about an incident in that town involving a member of the Stellarton police force.
SIRT says its investigation considered whether the officer may have uttered threats to his wife during an argument.
In a report released today SIRT says its investigation found the words uttered by the officer did not meet the definition of a criminal threat and there are no reasonable grounds to charge him.
It says while the words can be considered inappropriate they don’t necessarily constitute a criminal offence.
The report says the officer did not use physical against his wife.
