New ads highlighting sexual consent may not be working

A new ad campaign designed to raise awareness about sexual consent, may be doing just the opposite.
The government sponsored ads are appearing all over HRM, and some suggest the campaign is misleading and inappropriate.
You may have noticed the ads around the city, one says ‘Do me’, and the other says ‘Take me’ in large print. What you may not have noticed is the smaller print on the ads with information about sexual consent.
Sherri Bain is one of the people behind a petition asking for government action surrounding the Rehtaeh Parsons case, and she tells News 95.7 when she first saw the ads, her first reaction was shock.
“All I could see was ‘take me’ or ‘do me’,” explained Bain.
She adds she’s happy the current issue is being raised, but the current campaign is missing the boat.
“The problem is, we’re not talking about consent, we’re talking about the design,” said Bain.
Bain questions whether the campaign is acheiving what was intended.
