East Coast poll shows we want CFL team

We know the Canadian Football League is interested in expanding to the East Coast, but does the East Coast want a CFL expansion team?

Corporate Research Associates’ Don Mills told News 95.7 both Moncton and Halifax support the idea, with 68% support in Halifax and 73% in Moncton.

He added Dartmouth residents support the idea more than anyone else in HRM.

“Maybe there are just more sports fans in Dartmouth,” he joked. “It’s probably the area where most fans of the Mooseheads reside, so it might have something to do with that.”

Residents of Bedford/Sackville were least likely to support a franchise.

The poll didn’t specifically ask about a stadium, but Mills said that’s received support in the past.

“Obviously a stadium for a professional football team is going to be a higher-level stadium and there’s a lot of stuff that would have to happen before we could have a CFL team in Halifax,” he said.

CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon has met with Halifax Mayor Mike Savage to talk about the potential of a team coming to the city.
