Woman dies in Bear River crash

A 38-year-old woman is dead after a single vehicle crash in Bear River, Nova Scotia.

RCMP say the crash happened around 1:00 a.m. on Reserve Road in Digby County. RCMP Corporal Tim MacDonald said her 18-year-old son was a passenger in the car.

“He made it out to a residence and called 911,” said MacDonald. “He was taken to a hospital in Digby with non-life threatening injuries. We expect he’ll be released today.”

MacDonald says the accident happened around a sharp corner. The Mounties say the vehicle suffered extensive damage to its front end and emergency crews had to use the Jaws of Life to extract the dead driver.

“They failed to negotiate the corner, went off the road and rolled over.” added MacDonald.

Both the mother and son were from Digby County. The Mounties believe alcohol may have been a factor and a traffic analyst has been called in to investigate the scene.
