RCMP investigate suspicious fire in Fall River

RCMP are investigating a suspicious fire overnight that destroyed a home under construction in Fall River.

Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency crews were called to the scene at 11:45 p.m. in a new phase of St. Andrew’s Village. The person who called 911 originally though the fire at 70 Ballentyne Way was a bonfire.

“It was a fully engulfed building and was pretty much burnt to the ground when crews arrived,” said acting division commander Steve Auton. “It had the windows, roof and doors on. It did not have an interior finishes, it was basically a stick frame construction.”

Anyone with information on the arson is asked to contact police or crimestoppers.

An hour later, fire crews were called to Middle Sackville for a fire which started on the back deck of a home at 5 Lakecrest Drive.

“Fire was going up the back of the building and was extending into the attic,” explained Auton. “The fire quickly took hold of the building. This was a total loss fire.”

According to Auton, three people managed to safely escape the home.

There are no reports of injuries. Both fires are under investigation.
