Pain at the pump expected heading into long weekend

News 95.7 has crunched the numbers and is predicting a jump at the pump of 4 cents a litre at midnight tonight.

George Murphy with Consumers For Fair Gas Prices told News 95.7 conflicts in the Middle East are to blame for the jump in prices.

“I’m not going to say it’s panic yet on the markets, but once the first bomb drops in Syria, you’re going to see a flood from the various markets that will be affected,” said Murphy.

He says prices could continue to go up if the United States moves into Syria, adding the increase has little to do with the fact that we are coming in to the Labour Day long weekend.

“When you’ve got something like this happening in the Middle East right now, I don’t know if anyone is really in the mood, if you will, to really do any travelling or do any buying or get out in the woods or anything,” said Murphy.

Our neighbours in New Brunswick are waking up to 137.1 — that’s a jump of 3 cents a litre over night.
