Three teens killed in separate long weekend crashes

As most families prepare to send their kids back to school this week, three families are dealing with the loss of teenaged loved ones after fatal crashes over the long weekend.
Two separate wrecks killed a 19-year-old man, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year old boy.
Both crashes happened in Hants County.
The 19 and 16-year-old were killed shortly after 1:30a.m. Monday morning when their car went off the road on Highway 1 in Ardoise.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Dan Austin told News 95.7 there were two other people in the car as well.
“There was a 19-year-old male transported to the QEII and a 16-year-old female taken to the Hants Community Hospital, both with non-life-threatening injuries,” he said.
Speed, alcohol and not wearing seatbelts were all factors in the crash.
Earlier in the weekend, shortly after 11a.m. Sunday morning, a 17-year-old from Maitland was killed in a crash on Highway 236 in Upper Kennetcook.
“The lone occupant of the car appeared to have lost control of his vehicle, left the road, hit a culvert, and then landed in the front lawn of a residence,” explained RCMP Sgt. Alain Leblanc.
Leblanc added there’s a misconception that winter driving is more dangerous than summer driving.
“The fact is during the summer with the increased volume of traffic on our roadways, there are more crashes in the summer and you would think that it would be the opposite,” he said.
The names of the victims have not yet been released.
