September predicted to be a record-breaker for rainfall

Rainfall records fell around the region yesterday with Halifax receiving about two-thirds of the precipitation the city normally sees in all of September in just one day.
“Normally at this time of year we’re supposed to get about 120 millimetres of rain, we got about 80 of that,” said News 95.7 Meteorologist Richard Zurawksi.
Parrsboro received the biggest deluge with closer to 90 millimetres, Moncton received 45 millimetres, while Saint John recorded just 35 mm.
Zurawski expects we could break the rainfall record for the month.
“We do get rainfalls like this in the fall based on low pressure systems coming up and it’s probably going to be a record-setting month or at least much larger than average month because we’ve still got another 27 days to go before the month is out.”
Zurawksi says climate change experts suggest more frequent precipitation on the East Coast could become the norm as a result of the effects of global warming.
