Fire damages Dartmouth pizza shop

A pizza shop in Dartmouth has suffered significant damage from a fire early this morning.

Acting division commander Steve Auton says fire crews were called to Panada Pizza at 6 Primrose Street at 4:50 a.m. where they found heavy smoke coming from the roof.

“When our crews arrived, they confirmed there was heavy smoke coming from the top of the building,” explained Auton. “Crews quickly accessed the roof, made entrance into the pizza shop and found a fire in back of the restaurant and knocked it down quickly.”

Auton says the fire didn’t extend to businesses along the strip mall.

“With the large ceiling and common attic spaces in these buildings, the crews were quite diligent in making sure it didn’t extend,” added Auton. “Some of the heat and fire had started to extend, but they got it under control.”

The fire is under investigation.
