Maritimes could be in for stormy weather this weekend

Local storm watchers are keeping a close eye on a tropical wave that’s formed in the Atlantic.
A wave is a hot spot, that’s likely to develop into a tropical depression.
News 95.7 meteorologist Richard Zurawski says the system is off the coast of Florida and could be on track to move up the Eastern Seaboard.
Zurawski says it’s likely to intensify as it moves north.
“And as it intensifies it becomes a bigger storm, now whether or not it maintains its tropical characteristics is moot at this stage because it’s still five days away, but it looks like it’s starting to develop and will continue its development as it moves along the Eastern Seaboard,” said Zurawski. “Usually hurricanes don’t develop that close to the northern waters and then move up and increase in strength. They usually start to die down when they get into the northern waters.”
That would mean an intensified low pressure system could hit the Maritimes this weekend, likely as a post or extra-tropical storm.
Zurawski says that could mean four to five inches of rain, 80 kilometre per hour winds and power outages.
