Nova Scotia’s Liberal Leader has released his party’s platform – called ‘Nova Scotia First.’
The committments in the plan are expected to cost $46.7 million annually, over 3 years.
Stephen McNeil spoke at the Dartmouth-North Community Centre on Wednesday morning, saying the plan is the result of hundreds of conversations with Nova Scotians over the past several years.
“That is why our proposals to the province are being called Nova Scotia First,” explained McNeil. “It’s not just a slogan, but a guiding principle for our time serving the people of this beautiful province.”
There are four key focuses of the plan, which include investing in front-line health care to reduce wait times and access to family doctors.
Other points include reinvesting in education, putting an end to corporate handouts and ending Nova Scotia Power’s monopoly.
McNeil also says he would cut the number of health boards from ten to two, which he says would save the province $13 million.
A total of $6 million is included in the plan to go toward a sexual assault strategy over three years – focusing on prevention and victim services.
