HALIFAX – Premier Darrell Dexter says the Nova Scotia government has committed to a $200,000 feasibility study into building a 25-bed community hospital in the Halifax suburb of Sackville.
Dexter says the money was included in this year’s capital budget for the Health Department.
He says a pilot project is also underway aimed at keeping the emergency department at the nearby Cobequid Community Health Centre functioning around the clock seven days a week.
The NDP premier says the pilot project will collect data on the use of the emergency room and how that affects the flow of patients at hospital emergency rooms in downtown Halifax.
He says relieving swamped emergency rooms in the city is vital because communities such as Clayton Park, Sackville and Bedford are the fastest growing areas of Halifax.
